Out of This World is more of its own beast in my opinion. Flashback has environments that are more fleshed out. They are meant to be explored, puzzles are meant to be solved, work is meant to be done (literally--see New Washington, stage 2). There is a bit of trial and error as well with some insta...

My 450 will read backups anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 the time. Its really more an exercise in patience, rebooting the CD-i over & over and hoping that the next time will be the one it reads. To a much smaller extent, the Goldstar model of 3DO has a slightly similar problem.

I agree. Teen seems appropriate. The story has mature themes, w/kidnapping, conspiracies, deaths, etc ...

The Snes version has a few edits that the other ports didn't get ...

The original releases did have that comic book that later ports left out ... I'm trying to remember if it was very violent?

I feel like I missed out when the forum was more active. Like many, my CD-i player had died thanks to the horrible battery design you mentioned. Even though I checked in on occasion, it was tough to bring myself to chat when I knew I couldn't play ... Now my player is woking again, but sadly in the ...

All quiet on the CD-i front

When was this forum at its peak? Do you think it will ever get back to that point, or even surpass it? This is a nice forum, and pretty much the only place for steady CD-i chat (steady to the extent that people are here) But, honestly, it is pretty dead. What do you think it would take to pick thing...

I love a good ramble. The atmosphere in OOTW is very strong, and is easily my favorite feature of the game! :) I am no gaming guru though, so to clarify what I meant about length ... Assuming you know both OOTW & Flashback by heart (say you've beaten them many times over the years) you could ...

I'll agree w/you that figuring out an espcially tough puzzle is very rewarding & satisfying. It is often worth frustration, and I really hate to resort to hints because it ruins the satisfaction. And I've no problems w/deaths in these games. Several of the Lucasarts games will let you die such as In...

Rating curiousity w/Flashback

I posted this on the 3DO forum some months back. Since Flashback has gotten discussion recently, I thought I'd post it here ... The CD-i & Jaguar versions are rated K-A (Kids to Adults, Ages 6+) This is what the E rating is today. The Sega cd version is a bit stricter with its rating, giving Flashb...

id have to disagree with you. not sure what you mean by dead ends as lucasarts games have dead ends too. the sierra graphic adventures is what got me into adventures. the first one i've ever played was the first leisure suit larry. also if you think the graphics have aged horribly some of the games...

I never got into Flashback, seems like a good game but Out of This World is so much better IMO I've fond memories of Out of this World but, imho, it doesn't even come close to Flashback. Ignoring the trial & error gameplay, OOTW is simply too short. Flashback has more packed into 1 level than OOTW ...

Annoying "Open"

What does it mean when my CD-i player goes to the boot up menu, turns red, and says open? The lid is shut tight! Thankfully this doesn't happen too often, but sometimes it occurs in the middle of running ...

No, I wasn't meaning the quality of the CDR or anything like that ... just certain models (like the more common 450) seem to have difficulty reading them on a regular basis.
