Philip's released VCD's

Anything relating to CD-i can be discussed in this forum. From the multiple hardware iterations of the system to the sofware including games, reference, music and Video CDs. Maybe you hold an interest in Philips Media and the many development houses set up to cater for CD-i if so then this is the forum.

Philip's released VCD's

Post by dunc90 » Wed Dec 27, 2006 12:47 pm

Hi

I'm interested in the films Philips released on VCD. Does anyone have a list as there appears to be lots of different films released in different countries? America and mainland Europe seems to have done better than the UK.

I think Philips licensed 50 titles from Paramount, 30 from MGM/UA, 10 from Orion for the USA, 15 from Live entertainment for the USA.

Any info useful

Thanks

I posted the masterlist right here

Unfortunately, it's not complete, regarding all the catalogue numbers and missing European releases, the more we all can add, the more complete it will eventually be.

I'm interested to know what exactly was the first digital video disc from Philips, what was the first commercial title?

Another one for the list I haven't seen yet would be:

911 Doing the business or at least I think thats the tile lol.

And Star Treck VI: The Undiscovered Country.

OR the interactive VCD:

Dinosaurs: The Myths & The Reality (I have inlay/cover scans for this if anyone is interested)

I have seen websites around that sell fairly recent movies on VCD along with a backcatalogue of older movies aswell HOWEVER I have never actually used any of them so I cant actually say what they are like.

I wouldn't include VCDs, only CDi CDs ((serial 811....)with the CDi logo on the spine).
I visited Chinatown in London, and they have shops stacked with VCDs, by the 1000s.

Also there are a few country released CDi films, eg I've seen some French-only and Dutch-only films, if I'm not mistaken.

What I wanna know, are there some p.orno movies on CDi? (again...not VCD)

Philips never wanted to be associated with that. The only titles softly related to it are "Playboy's Complete Massage" and "The Joy of S.ex". But that's no p.orn.

But as other companies were able to do this, it can't be a reason why VCD didn't make it as a standard...
