PONG!

Anything relating to CD-i can be discussed in this forum. From the multiple hardware iterations of the system to the sofware including games, reference, music and Video CDs. Maybe you hold an interest in Philips Media and the many development houses set up to cater for CD-i if so then this is the forum.

What kind of "horsepower" would a Spectrum emulator require, then? Its only an 4 Mhz (or was it 6?) Z80 processor, right?

oops. Is it very slow machine?
Sega cd, for example or 3DO have more than CDi.

The question : Is CDi have more than one procesor?

For example, a video or/and sound procesor, etc..

CD-i has audio/video coprocessors, but you cannot "program" them. The video processor has control instructions that can be used for video effects, but nothing else (it can make a great smooth crossfade with very little cpu cost, though).

I still have a Panasonic 3D0 FZ-1 with 120 games :) and my sega cd with 200 games :)

Sega CD use 2 cpu core , one for the Sega Genesis and one for the Sega CD but don't forget that Sega CD is for GAMING application only and very slow due to loading time with the 1X laser.

Hi,

The Spectrum was based on a 3.5MHz Z80A.

Even the original 8MHz Atari ST and original 7.8MHz Amigas couldn't emulate the Spectrum at full speed, so there seems little hope of a CD-i doing it...

Much better to re-make the original games - keep the gameplay but remove the Spectrum's "colour clash" and update the graphics slightly to use more colours on-screen at once.
