Hello!

I've heard a rumor that the CD-i can play burned games with no modchip and things like that. Is is true? I'm particurarly interested to know about the 450 and 220 models as shown in the pictures below:

CD-i's have no copy protection so burned cd's work fine, provided the player's CD drive can physically read the discs (which could be an issue with cheap discs and/or high-speed burns).

Mind you, the CD-i disc "format" is a little bit arcane, but there are a number of programs that can create proper disc image files (usually called ISO files) and burn them.

Thank you for the information. I use ImgBurn for my ISO burns. The only problem is how to extract the .cue file from the main .bin game, to be able for the burning program to read it.

I am 0 for 5 on burnt disc w/my Magnavox model.

4 won't even load! :( The 1 that will, does so about 1/3 of the time, after which it proceeds to stop within 5 minutes or so (telling me the disc is dirty, which it isn't ... brand new)

Burned discs on CD-i

Interesting post, however I can guarantee that burned discs do indeed work brilliantly without a problem. I own the 220 and 370 models and all of my burned copies work great. I own originals now for collecting purposes, but I did obtain copies of the more rare games very early on.

An excellent source for game files is doperoms.com, and then once each zip or rar file is extracted, you are left with a bin and cue file. I then use Nero Burning Rom and the program automatically burns the disc.

I have never had a copied disc not play. I have also used clonecd and made direct copies from originals as well.

After all, I paid quite a bit of money for such titles as The Lost Ride and Solar Crusader, I would rather not play my originals to avoid scratches and such, so this has worked very well for me.
