mechanism for cdi360
I have a cd-i 360 that isn't working, it has been looked at and apparently the mechanism needed is used in other philips hardware, the CDM9. Does this ring any bells with anyone here, I wouldn't know where to start searching!

Thanks, but I have tried google in the past and ended up seeing old posts on technical or audio forums from years ago or there seems to be variations on the CDM9, such as CDM9 pro and CDM9/44, CDM9/50, CDM9/65 and so on.
I was hoping someone here on the forums has enough knowledge on the hardware side to point me in the right direction or maybe knows exactly which model is in the 360?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe all the earlier cdi players use the same CDM-9/44 laser mechanism.
If the mechanism is the problem, you could buy a cheap old cdi-210/00 or cdi-210/20 and transplant the mechanism.
But some sellers also sell the CD mechanism on ebay as parts (most of the times this is more expensive).
CDM-9/44 is very common in earlier cd players. Also I think the other CDM-9 versions are technically interchangeable, but I don't know for sure.
Are you sure the mechanism is the problem? the memory battery is the biggest cause for problems, and cause all kinds of erratic behavior as the data is corrupted just before the battery dies completely.

If that's the case I'll open up one of the spares I have lying around for a look to see if it is the same.
I was lucky enough to be able to take it to someone who had or still does(can't remember the exact details anymore) work for philips in the repair department. He fixed my fw380i for me and couldn't fix the portable but told me it needed a new mechanism so I'm inclined to believe him. It starts up fine but won't read discs.
Would it start up at all if the problem was the memory battery? sorry for my technical ignorance and thanks for your help.
