Looking forward to it! Tough nut to crack that one?

Yes, it was quite hard. I had to use a very sharp knife to separate the cover, and it took a few hours.

I've found a shop in the meantime that sells the cells needed to refurbish the battery, the cells are even from the same manufacturer! (GP, that is) Sadly, they charge 8,40 Euro for one cell, and 12 are needed... That's a little too expensive, but maybe I can get them cheaper somewhere else.

I think I'm going to use SANYO NH HR4/5U-1Z cells. They have the correct size and a much higher capacity than the original cells (2150 mAh instead of 1500 mAh). Still 3.35 € for one cell, so refurbishing the battery will cost about 40 €. Not that bad, I'd say. :D

You can refurbish mine after yours then!

I'll write a tutorial about how to do it. It must be done quite carefully, as the battery contains some electronics (a diode, a PTC thermistor and a charging current limiter).

The new cells just arrived:

So I can finish the battery refurbishing today and the tutorial this weekend. :D

Just finished re-assembling the battery:

I'm quite happy with the result. :) Now I have to see how long the new battery can power the 370. It has a 40% higher capacity after all!

Does anyone know how long the original battery was able to power the CD-i 370? I've heard something about 1.5 hours at most. I can watch VCDs for more than 120 minutes with the new battery, it should even run longer when the DVC isn't used, as the load is much lower then. :D

Anyway, my battery refurbishing tutorial is done, but I have yet to translate it to English...

1.5 hours sounds about right. Look forward to that tutorial, I think my battery is on deaths door!

In case someone wants to take a look at the German version:

http://www.retro-net.de/cdi/370_akku_de.htm

I'm not fully satisfied with it and will update it slightly before I start with the English translation, but it's complete and all instructions are correct (well, I hope so... ;)).

Wow Windowskiller, excellent job! A Google translation makes a lot of sense for english readers:
