Mattel Hoverboards (from Back to the Future)

Post by Bas » Tue Dec 27, 2005 7:48 pm

In the movie Back to the Future II, the hero rides a pink hoverboard and saves the day, etc. A very prevalent legend that circulated around the schools when this movie came out was that some toy company had actually developed a working hoverboard, and were planning to release it as soon as the movie was out of theaters. The release of the board not occuring, the rumor was appended to be such that someone had been killed/severely injured in the playtesting of the hoverboard, and the resulting suit from the child's parents kept the hoverboard from being ever put into production.

what do you think of it? the director really claims them to be real, and i think it's one neat job how they made those scenes in 1989! Is this fake?

you can buy one here

Having a board Hover by itself is in the realms of reality but I really can't see such a device holding anything as substantial as a child!!

It'd be very cool if it were real however :D
