DIGITAL VIDEO CARTRIDGE COMPATIBILITY! PLEASE HELP!

Post by xxjustinukxx » Thu Mar 02, 2006 8:26 pm

Hello everyone!

Ive just bought a phillips cd-i 210 and bought a digital video cartridge from ebay.

I opened the package with great anticipation, only to find upon taking the plate off the back of my cdi where the DV cartridge goes, the cartridge is too wide! (or the slot on the cdi is too small!) is there anything i can do?

I looked on the black moon project cdi store and noticed my dv catrridge looks the same as the one they sell, yet that one is compatible with cdi's 210 AND 220! so my cartridge should fit shouldn't it?

PLEASE PLEASE HELP if anyone can, as im really annoyed and can't play any of my games i want to! :(

thanks! :)

Justin

As you've just discovered, there are two types of DV cartridges and also two types of DV cartridge slots. The Comparison table of all Philips and Philips-build consumer CD-i players on ICDIA shows the cartridge slot type of each player; 210/40 and up and 220/60 and up need the small cartridge (9956), earliers models of these players need the large cartridge (9141).

There is no way to fit the larger cartridge into the smaller slot and vice versa; the video interface signals are different (digital versus analog). You will have to get a matching cartridge for your player...

Vice versa does work. I've got a CD-i 210 with a large cartridge slot, and it is fitted with a small cartridge. :)

The cartridge may *physically* fit, but does it fit *electronically*? That is, does it play digital video CD-i discs? I think not

Yes, of course. It does play digital video discs, both games and video cds.

If a small cartridge fits, you have what I would call a "small" slot. Of course, it may be physically large (lots of space), but an actual large cartridge won't fit and/or connect properly.

There are a few players with such misleading slots: at first glance you'd think a large cartridge is needed, but it turns out to need a small one.
