The Atlantis Project

Anything relating to CD-i can be discussed in this forum. From the multiple hardware iterations of the system to the sofware including games, reference, music and Video CDs. Maybe you hold an interest in Philips Media and the many development houses set up to cater for CD-i if so then this is the forum.

The Atlantis Project

Post by Devin » Sun Jan 21, 2007 11:07 pm

Time for something a little special. With a run of good luck we got the chance to have a chat with the one and only Paul Clarke. If you didn't know, this is the man that coined the idea to create a first person shooter on CD-i similar to DOOM and its ilk. Paul was quite happy to talk about his work and we're proud to present it through Black Moon. Here's The Atlantis Engine, probably the most ambitious project ever undertaken on CD-i.

And seriously, who would have thought CD-i was capable of a realtime first person shooter? Not me! It even runs far smoother than the SNES Doom game, although it's all 'semi'-3D ;)

Ten years after the release, it's still an amazing project. Thanks Paul!
